Does anybody really enjoy this time of year? The holidays are, for the most part, over and resolutions are set to fall by the wayside in the near future. Leftover Christmas music sounds out of place. I'm reading Lexicon of Musical Invective: Critical Assaults on Composers since Beethoven's Time. Quite interesting to see what critics thought at the time of what we consider to be classics. There's even an index of terms used (like "dog howling", "savage", "pretentious" and such).
