It's Official

Rush appears to have an official site: Officialrush.com. About time. I've always thought that having an official site would be a good idea. Properly run, you can be a useful source of timely information an a place where a band can communicate directly with the fans to whatever extent they wish.

I'm assuming the eye is some part of the new album artwork.

Fellowship of the Ring DVD

Looks like a DVD of the theatrical release in August, then a special edition with 30 extra minutes in November.

Late Night

Every once in a while I wish I had some old, ordinary episodes of The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson on tape somewhere. I miss being able to watch a talk show that didn't always have guest on plugging their latest show/movie/rehab.

Duh

Gee, a little poking around and I found the Good Eats with Alton Brown Fan Page.

That's Good Code

I was unaware that there was a Good Eats Geek Code available.

Alton Brown has a nice site, but I wish there was a big selection of recipies there. Guess you don't want to give away content when you've got a cookbook coming out.

Public Service Announcement

Take your Christmas trees down. Now. Honestly.

Saw one (real, not fake) up and still lit the other day. Can't imagine how it hasn't shed every needle yet.

BusinessWeek and Apple

Bunch of stories on Apple at BusinessWeek Online. Need to take some time and take a look at them.

Happy Birthday

The Macintosh turns 18 today.

I started using a Mac back when I was working in the Philosophy Department office back in 1987, if I remember my work study jobs correctly. It was a new SE/30 as I recall.

Netscape/Microsoft

The New York Times (registration required) has a good article on the Netscape lawsuit.

Scoopin' up them pages

A good overview of how the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine works.

Seven +/- 2

I remember hearing about the seven plus or minus two "rule" back in psychology class in high school (and maybe even in college). Some claimed that's why phone numbers were seven digits. I wasn't aware that people were applying the concept to Web navigation.

What Took So Long? Department

Netscape (finally) sues Microsoft.

OzzTV

Hey, looks like Ozzy is getting his own show on MTV.

Honestly, is he even close their demographic?

Guide to Strange Places

Caught the second half of the John Adams documentary Hail Bop! on Ovation last night, which caused me to look at Earbox, his official site, this morning. Turns out he's conducting the premiere of a new piece, Guide to Strange Places this weekend in London.

Now if only Naive and Sentimental Music would end up on cd. The Nonesuch Web site said it would be released in "late 2001".

Snoogans

Looks like I can preorder a signed Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back DVD for list price. Wasn't the greatest movie, but Kevin Smith always puts together a great package of extras.

Now if Mallrats wasn't so expensive, I'd pick up one of those too. Time to add that to my "used dvd" list on the Palm.

Music News

Two recent bits of news:

Living Colour's going back in the studio next month. Very cool. Saw them last summer and they're even better than they were ten years ago.

Rush is finally done with the new record. Sounds like April 2 might be the release date.

More behind the scenes

Been poking around with the new templates/styles available here. Not much to report.

I should really take some time and go through the manual and develop some templates in GoLive and use those, I suppose. Not sure if I'm a big fan of using xhtml and css2 though.
