Moved the May 200-May 2001 entries from the old static web site over to MT. When I get some more time, I'll move June 2001-September 2001 over.
Enjoy.
Let's see...on the big screen:
The Bourne Identity: Not bad, two-and-a-half stars. Matt Damon was ok, and I enjoyed Franka Potente swearing in German.
Spiderman: Not really that good, maybe two stars. No noteable music at all, no recognizeable "spiderman theme", which was surprising. I think I laughed only twice, once when he was trying to figure out how to shoot webs. The inconsistency with how his pawers were handled were annoying, and the Green Goblin seemed to have watched a little too much of Batman's Joker to get the nutty villain bit down.
On the small screen:
Ocean's 11: Pretty good (three stars), and the first movie I've seen that Brad Pitt was in. I'm thinking about picking up a copy of the dvd. The music was well done; could have been too much cheese with lots of Frank & Dean & Sammy. The plot handed out information at the right pace and there were enough twists.
Spy Kids: Not bad (two-and-a-half stars). For a kids' movie, it wasn't terribly dumbed down. Not enough Cheech. Good music, which wasn't surprising.
It is a bit intersting that the soundtrack/music in the film is something I'm commenting on, especially a week or so after seeing the films. The use of the right music in the right place or way seems to be often ignored unless a soundtrack is loaded up with "hit singles" used to bring in more money.

Pretty hot downtown this morning...
Saw on Amazons site, quote randomly, that John Adam's Naive and Sentimental Music is being released on July 30. Information on Nonesuch Records' New Releases (actually Upcoming Releases) page confrims it. I missed hearing it whe the CSO performed it several years ago, and have heard only good things about it.
Good article at mix.com on the recording process, among other things, of Los Lobos' new album.
I had thought that after last weekend that my e-mail traffic was pretty slow due to the weather/time of year/random probability, but it turned I hadn't received any mail from the 18 Yahoo! Groups lists I belong to. Seems to be that I'm still subscribed to all of them still, but I'm going ahead and unsubbing/resubbing to all of them to get the e-mail flowing again. Haven't had a chance to research why this had happend, though; could just be one of those things.
Saw that Rhino was coming out with an 80s box set, Like, Omigod! The '80s Pop Culture Box (Totally) next month. Sounds like it could be good, but I can't really tell because they've failed to put the tracklist online. Same probelm with In A Word: Yes (1969 - ). Can't imagine why the tracklists aren't online.
In an unrelated retail event, I was at the Gap (not a big fan, I can see why they haven't made money in a long time) and was amazed at how many items they had in the Men's section that were Extra-Small. I can't remember the lat time I saw anything in that size.
Been watching a lot of anime these days (Robotech, Love Hina, with Princess Nine next in the stack).
Speaking of TV, caught a bit of a Larry Sanders episode last night and thought that it might be a good thing to have on dvd. Maybe some Johnny Carson, too.
Mozilla 1.0 and Mac OS 10.1.5.
I've got a mac.com account, but have never used it for e-mail. After reading about MacSlash's problems with their domain and Apple's "filtering" of e-mail, I'm glad I haven't used it for anything important. Apple decided that mail coming from Dotster was spam, so mail regarding renewal of Macslash's domain name was blocked, allowing somebody else to snap it up.
Note to self: If you're planning on driving up Clark street past Wrigley Field, check to make sure there isn't a Cubs game taking place in about 15 minutes.
