Deleted Two Towers Stuff

Interesting article at TheOneRing.net listing things that were deleted form the theatrical release that might end up on the xtended dvd. I'm guessing some of this is unsubstantiated rumor and/or unfilmed, but some of it certainly makes sense.

Chicago Wireless

Found a search engine at 80211hotspots.com for Chicago-area wireless (and cities/places as well). wifinder.com providers similar tools. Haven't had a chance to give them much of a test drive, but there they are.

Stored Items

Been meaning to post a couple of things...

Saw today in Zentertainment that the fisrt season of Futurama will be released on March 25, 2003 (with commentary and deleted scenes). When we were in London last month, I held the first two season boxes in my hands ar HMV and silently cursed region coding.

Trying to find a place to see The Two Towers tomorrow that won't be full of costumed fans. Maybe a trip out to the suburbs is in order. Time to research where the good screens are. We saw Harry Potter: Chamber of Secrets on a digital projection screen and I was impressed.

The cd player in the car has gone a little nutty, refusing to play most cds and saying "CD ERR", so looks like we'll need to get that replaced. The odd benefit is that I've dipped into the old tape boxes and started playing old unmarked tapes from 10+ years ago just to figure out what they are. One find: Los Lobos' La Pistola y El Corazon on side A and Was (Not Was)'s What Up, Dog? on side B, complete with scratches and pops from the vinyl.

WiFi in NYC

Glenn Fleishman has an article at the NY Times on WiFi nodes in NYC. Interesting to see how many are encrypted (30% or so), and a map of all of them.

I've seen a mapping of the ones in Chicago but haven't gotten around to walking my iBook around the neighborhood or downtown to see what turns up just yet. Just wanted to download some big sofware updates (20+ MB) and not have to do it over dialup.

The Two Towers Extended DVD

Looks like there's already talk of what will be on The Two Towers Extended Edition DVD. I can only imagine geeks are planning their exteneded Lord of the Rings DVD festivals for next year and the year after.
