Well, turns out the iPod surgery wasn't a success. Got it open after 15 minutes, put in the new battery. It appeared to chrage when plugged in, but it doesn't work. I was concerned for a couple of days, but then won a raffle at the holiday party at work, and ended up buying a new 20 gig iPod at the Apple store. I'll end up putting the old one for sale on eBay as a fixer-upper.
