I had always been a fan of BBEdit Lite and used it for my basic text file editing needs until it went away, replaced by the $49 TextWrangler. I kept the most recent version (6.1?) on my iBook, but I was slowly looking for something new with more features (and free). SubEthaEdit seems like it'll fit the bill and it works with Cyberduck (an FTP browser). Just saw this morning that Bare Bones has made TextWrangler a free product. Time to check it out.
