Aiport Crash

I picked up an Apple Airport Base Station (Graphite) several years ago, and have only had minor problems with it. Sometimes it would be visible to the iBook but unresponsive/unconnected to the DSL, sometimes it would simply not appear. I'd go into our office and usually find all three lights on solid green. Fixing it was easy, just unplug the power, wait 30 seconds or so, then plug it back it, which usually fixed everything. It has been acting up a little more recently, and decided to just show the middle light lit up solid red. The usual methods to reboot failed. I was fortunately able to jump on someone else's wireless base station on our block to do some searching via Google, and ended up at Hack the Planet: How I Got My AirPort Base Station to Work, which gave me enough info to reboot the base station and reload the software on it. Maybe 5-10 minutes of work, and it was just like new.

SBC Yahoo blocking port 25

I ran into this issue a week or so ago...all of a sudden I was unable to connect to the mail server at this domain. Turns out SBC Yahoo was blocking port 25. I searched Google for information on how to switch Eudora 6 to use port 587. Turns out to be rather easy.

On Macintouch.com this morning there was some discussion on this issue, along with a link a support page on SBC Yahoo's site: SBC Yahoo! Help - Port 25 filters. In short, you can get this "feature" turned off by filling out a form. Not sure if I'll go this route or if I'll stick with port 587 for now.

Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger

There's a sweet shot of the Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger packaging over at MacMinute News this morning. I'm glad there aren't any stripes on the X on the box.

Armstrong to Ride Tour

Seen today: It's official: Armstrong to race Tour de France. He mentioned on Oprah that he'd ride it again, but he didn't say when and it was no secret that he's under contract to ride it one more time.

On the subject of Oprah: It has been a long time since I've seen her, and it was surprising how insubstantial the show with Lance Armstrong was. Is every Oprah show about Oprah?

Spam Stats

It has been educational to take a look at my daily web stats and MT-Blacklist activity here on ivory-tower.org and see the attempts to comment spam old entries (which are closed to comments anyway). Every couple of days the domains and subdomains requesting old pages change from poker-something.somedomain.com to phenteramine.anotherdomain.com. Sixteen subdomains of one domain, 15 from another domain, 8 from another, and 6 from another. Sigh. I wonder if they ever give up and move along somewhere else. They certainly aren't making any referral money off of this site.
