The Kid Stays in the Picture by Robert Evans

The Kid Stays in the Picture

Picked up this tale of a larger-than-life Hollywood story after hearing people talk it up in various podcasts over the last year or so. Looking forward to great stories about the 1960s and 1970s movie business.

The Children of Hurin by JRR Tolkien

The Children of Hurin Time for some fiction—getting back to Tolkien for a bit. Got this when it came out and added it to the stack of things to read and soon forgot about it. Not sure. why.

Sessions with Sinatra: Frank Sinatra and the Art of Recording

Saw this had come out in paperback, so I picked up a copy.

Quite good. Traced the develpment of recording tech during Sinatra's career, especially in the Columbia and Capitol eras. A good followup on the topic after having read the Bing Crosby bio earlier this year.

Diaries 1969-1979: The Python Years

Uncommon Carriers by John McPhee

Table of Contents

Plucked this out of the bookcase over the weekend—didn't even realize I owned it. Bought it used some time ago, I guess. Should be easier going than Assembling California or The Control of Nature. Finished July 10.

With Wings Like Eagles: A History of the Battle of Britain

Decided to do a little historical reading next, so looks like a couple books on the Battle of Britain, which I know little about. Finished June 23.

Masterharper of Pern

The Masterharper of Pern
Decided to get a little escapism in my reading, so I pulled out one of the Pern books that I hadn't read in a long time.

Of course, this turned into a Ninth Pass Pern marathon (Dragonriders trilogy, Harper Hall trilogy, Renegades, All the Weyrs, and Skies of Pern) along with the first two books in the chronology (Dragonsdawn and Chronicles of Pern). I'll save the other stuff (Moreta, Second Pass stuff) for later, and eventually get to the newest titles written by McCaffrey's son.
